Rabbi Jordi Gendra-Molina, a native of Barcelona, Spain, currently serves as rabbi of Temple Beth Shalom in Mechanicsburg, PA. He has also been adjunct professor of Aramaic at RRC and Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.

He holds a Master of Arts in linguistics for Semitic languages, with specialization in Hebrew and Aramaic, from Universitat de Barcelona. He received his Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters and rabbinic ordination from RRC in 2006.

His research and writings include several publications in the field of Jewish studies. He wrote the first annotated translation of the Haggadah into Catalan (Ritual de la Haggada de Pasqua, Ed. Claret 1997), as well as presentations on Talmud argument including “El horno de Ajnai o el valor de argumentar” in Kiliedro: Revista Espanola de Cultura Contemporanea.

He also has written extensively on medieval Spanish Judaism, including Les responsa de Rabi Simo ben Tsemakh Duran (L. Muntaner, 2001); a series of four articles on medieval Jewish Mallorca, the first of which appeared in Segell, (vol. 3, 2009); and a translation and study of Isaac the Blind’s commentary to the Sefer Yetzirah (forthcoming). In addition, he has published several articles on contemporary European Judaism including “The Jews of the European Union,” Segell (vol. 2, 2006), and delivered a number of lectures, including “European Judaism” at Wayne State University in Detroit in 2006 and “The Role of Religion in Contemporary European Society” at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA, in 2007). He has just written a book on Israel with Manel Frau-Cortes titled Identitats en conflicte: Una visió catalana d’Israel (Identities in Conflict: A Catalan Vision of Israel), published by Dux, which will appear this summer.
