In 2010, Rabbi Nathan Martin, ’06, became director of student life at RRC. He provides individual support to students and coordinates programming and community building at the College.
He served as assistant director of the University of Michigan (U-M) Hillel for four years before coming to work at RRC. Prior to entering the rabbinate, Martin already had a strong interest in intercultural affairs; he spent a year living and working in Cairo, Egypt before earning a Masters of Arts degree in international relations, with a concentration on Middle East studies, from Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, Martin spent nearly 10 years working in the field of energy efficiency policy as a researcher and policy analyst, developing a focus on industrial-energy efficiency. He has been able to integrate these passions into his rabbinate by developing innovative Jewish-Muslim programming at the U-M; teaching and exploring the connections between Judaism and environmental sustainability; and integrating these values into his life by working to reduce his carbon footprint.
