Rabbi Margot Stein teaches prayer-leading skills and helps students with site-specific performance issues, personal presence, vocal coaching and developing a prayer practice.

She currently serves on the board of Jewish Learning Venture, where she helped create “Whole Community Inclusion (WCI),” which seeks to include those with special needs in all aspects of Jewish synagogue life and education. She also helped develop the award-winning “Celebrations” Shabbat and holiday curriculum and works with special-needs children and their families to create meaningful life-cycle celebrations.

As a longtime instructor in the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, Rabbi Stein was selected to help revise and pilot the “Ethics of Jewish Living” curriculum. Her work brought a Reconstructionist perspective to thousands of Melton students throughout the English-speaking world.

Rabbi Stein serves as High Holiday cantor at Reconstructionist congregation Mishkan Shalom in Philadelphia and she developed the high-energy musical Shabbat service “Friday Night Alive!” with her Shabbat Unplugged troupe. Her programs have received grants from the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, the Jewish Women’s Archive, the Jewish Outreach Institute, the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and the Lasko Family Foundation.

Rabbi Stein has recorded and co-produced seven albums of original Jewish music, including the CD for the Reconstructionist Haggadah, A Night of Questions. Her a cappella trio, MIRAJ, performs throughout the tri-state region and her liturgical compositions have been widely published.

Rabbi Stein’s chapter on Haftarat Behalotecha appears in The Women’s Haftarah; and her book reviews, articles and essays appear in a variety of publications.

A graduate of Princeton University, Rabbi Stein earned her Master of Hebrew Letters and rabbinical degree from RRC in 1997. From 1999 to 2002, she served as the director of marketing and communications for the Reconstructionist movement’s congregational union.
