Profile of Dan Ehrenkrantz

Rabbi Dan Ehrenkrantz received his bachelor of arts in religion (magna cum laude) from Tufts University, as well as a master of arts in Hebrew letters and rabbinic ordination from RRC. He studied at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University in New York.

Ehrenkrantz was rabbi of Congregation Bnai Keshet in Montclair, NJ, from 1988 to 2002. While at Bnai Keshet, he oversaw a comprehensive building expansion project. His efforts to build interfaith understanding in Montclair as a member of the Montclair Clergy Association received national exposure in a featured story in The Washington Post.

He is the Aaron and Marjorie Ziegelman Professor at RRC, where he has taught courses on Contemporary Jewish Literature, Modern and Contemporary Hebrew Literature and Darshanut. He has lectured, taught or conducted workshops at a number of institutions, including the following: Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, Yale University, Swarthmore College, Lishma conferences in New York City, the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation and synagogues in locations around the country.

His writings have appeared in a wide range of Jewish and general-interest publications, including Jewish Week, the Jerusalem Report, the Charlotte Observer and Child magazine. He has contributed commentary to The Guide to Jewish Practice (RRC Press) on the topics of kashrut, tzedakah, bioethics, mourning and speech; and authored an essay in the forthcoming The Dream of Zion, edited by Jeffrey Salkin (Jewish Lights Publishing).

Ehrenkrantz is a past president of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association and sits on Mazon's national advisory board, Panim's advisory board and the Jewish Publication Society National Council.
