Robert Horowitz has more than 20 years of experience as a development professional for Jewish organizations and higher-education institutions. He was the executive director of development and alumni relations at Temple University School of Dentistry, where he planned, organized, directed and managed all development activities. He also coordinated all continuing education programs, seminars and symposia for the dental school.
For eight years he operated his own fundraising consulting business, Robert Horowitz Associates Inc., and for five years he was a vice president and a director of the EHL Consulting Group Inc., a full-service fundraising counsel company. In this capacity, he was the lead consultant on projects for Temple University Law School, the Jewish Education Service of North America, Rutgers University Center for the Study of Jewish Life, the New Dramatists and the Jewish Community Center of Springfield, MA. Among the services he provided were annual campaign planning, capital campaign planning, prospect research, cultivation and solicitation of potential major donors, pre-campaign statements, development audits and case statements.
Horowitz worked for 10 years at the Federation of Jewish Agencies in Philadelphia in roles of increasing responsibility, rising from campaign associate to campaign director. During his tenure, he raised $118 million and was responsible for a three-year capital campaign that raised $40.2 million.
He has published a number of articles and written reports on development issues, and has delivered seminars and speeches on academic topics. Horowitz is a former professor of American history at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, Hobart & William Smith Colleges and Rutgers University. He authored a book, The Great Impeacher: A Political Biography of James M. Ashley (Brooklyn College Press, 1979). He received a Ph.D. in American history from City University of New York and received a bachelor's degree cum laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
