Nancy T. Wimmer is a lawyer, development professional and a former legal advocate for patients and the indigent. She is the past director of development and planned giving at Temple University School of Law, where she was responsible for outreach and fundraising with alumni for bequests and other planned gifts.
Wimmer entered the evening division of Temple's School of Law in 1985 as a mother of two and as a commuting student. She graduated in 1994 following a prolonged and successful bout with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a life-threatening disease that transformed her from student to patient advocate. After becoming an attorney, she became executive director for the cancer Patient Legal Advocacy Network, an organization she founded to provide legal advocacy to cancer patients.
In 1999, she joined Temple's law school administration as associate counsel in Temple's Legal Aid Office, where she was an advocate for indigent clients and patients with cancer and AIDS.
Wimmer continues her work as a patient advocate as cofounder of Hosts for Hospitals, an organization that provides free in-home visits for patients who come to the Philadelphia area for medical treatment. Among other community activities, she is past co-president of the National Council of Jewish Women of Northeast PA, and past program director for the Jewish Community Center of Scranton, PA. She served on the boards of directors of Beth Am Israel synagogue in Penn Valley, PA, and of Temple Israel in Scranton.
